Be joyful, know what religious poverty really is, and a bicycle just might be better for you than a car, Pope Francis told thousands of seminarians, novices and young people discerning their vocations July 6 at the Vatican in a celebration of the Year of Faith.
The Holy Father spoke off-the-cuff in a 45-minute talk about discerning one’s religious calling. It was a presentation that could help many vocation directors sharpen their focus on what’s essential.
Here are some of the important areas of the Holy Father’s talk:
- Failure to commit
- Joy
- Pastoral Fruitfulness and Celibacy
- Consistency and Authenticity
- Religious poverty
- Transparency with the Confessor
- The four pillars of formation
- Community Life
- Do not speak ill of others
- Two dimensions: Transcendence and the neighbor
- A more missionary Church
