Before you joined a religious community years ago, you no doubt made a friend there first. That friend was either a community member or the vocation director.
Now that you’re a vocation director, you need to make contact with lots of candidates so that some will join your community. The personal video is a great tool that breaks down barriers and establishes trust with your candidates. Facebook’s Live Video is an easy and quick way to make those connections by making videos with no technical knowledge and no equipment to set up.
The below video I made is only a minute long. It was easy to make and post. First, you should come up with a single idea. Introduce yourself, and at the end encourage viewers to like, comment, and share.
The above video was made with Facebook Live Video using a laptop webcam.
You get double duty from the video because even those who aren’t watching it while it’s live can view it later on Facebook. You can also place the video on your website or put it in your newsletter with the embed code that Facebook provides. If you don’t like what you see, delete it and start over.
It’s a good idea to make such videos on a regular basis – once a week if you can. You can devote each video to such topics as how to take the first steps to discerning your vocation, how to tell your parents about your interest in religious life, or why religious and consecrated life is so necessary in today’s world.
Best wishes in attracting good candidates with Facebook Live Video!
