What “makes a connection” for your candidate?

Why does a candidate choose your religious community? What are the human reasons behind a person being drawn to your community?

It’s because they find a real connection with your community, using both intellect and emotion.

“Hey, guys. Have you ever thought about religious life?”

Here are five important reasons that we here at Vocation Promotion would like to note.

  1. “I know a lot about this community. I’ve learned about their foundation, their spiritual life, and their apostolate.”
  2. “These people have the same desires and interests as me when it comes to devotion, ministry, and belief.”
  3. “This community has a genuine zeal for the Catholic faith, lived in authenticity.”
  4. “This community seems to be approved by the wider community. They are looked up to or approved by those groups or individuals whom I know.”
  5. “I trust these guys/gals. When I interact with the person I know there, they seem to have my best interests in mind.”

You might be thinking that we’ve left out the action of grace — that God is calling them to this particular community. Well, that is an obvious reason. But doesn’t such a calling find its groundwork in the above conditions?

I’d like to ask you, the vocation directors: Do you have any thoughts to add to these points above? What is your experience?
